A new PLAYSTATION 3 firmware update (v2.36) will be launching soon, improving system stability when playing select PlayStation format software titles. We’re also happy to officially report that the 2.40 system software update for PS3 will include “XMB” access in-game. The update will also include “trophies,” an exciting new feature that we’ll be providing more details on soon, as well as some other new enhancements. We’ve talked about some of this on the blog previously and know that many of you can’t wait to get your hands on these features. You can expect us to share all of the official details shortly.
But DON'T WORRY you can still use this to backup ps3games. Don't be fooled you can copy ps3 games.!

Burned, Hacked PS3 Games

Posted on: July 03, 2009
Well, it's been done, on Thanksgiving none the less. Someone has figured out how to "backup" PS3 Blu-Ray discs. While backing up your games sounds like noble "research" it also opens up the door to copy PS3 games and distribute them via torrents or other download services. I'm not one to promote or decry copying. I happen to think PSP homebrew is one of the brighter spots on the PSP. I also think that console companies would do well to embrace, rather than battle hackers. But what I believe is irrelevant, what you really want to know about is how the PS3 got hacked. PS3news.com broke the story, covering the exploits and details of how it was done. For specifics, I recommend visiting PS3news. But in a nutshell, via the installation of a version of Linux, some backup software, and copy of Madden '07 three games have been successfully backed up, or "dumped", Madden, Resistance, and Genji. Thre process isn't simple, but it seems easier than many of the PS3 hacks that are out there. Of course, if the PSP has taught us anything, it's that Sony doesn't take kindly to hackers. I'd bet even money on a new PS3 update that patches the problem being a requirement to play any new game in '07.

PS3 SAK (Swiss Army Knife) v1.00 Posted

CJPC has released an incredibly useful application for the PS3 using the OtherOS Open Platform concept. PS3 Swiss Army Knife (SAK),
appropriately titled, provides a web interface that enables the following: * Check Blu-Ray Disk size * Format internal PS3 HDD * Back-up iSO to internal PS3 HDD * Back-up iSO to external EXT3 HDD * Back-up iSO via wired network, to Windows Network Share * Explore HDD (Linux side), and download files to a PC. * Explore Blu-Ray Disks, and download files to a PC (with UDF 2.5 Support!) * Reboot console * Reboot console to PS3 GameOS * Poweroff console Note: With SAK v1.00 you can now dump your PS3/Blu-Ray disc images without installing PS3 Linux, however, you must still format the PS3 HDD prior (as if you were going to install PS3 Linux) in order to install/use the OtherOS– this is a $ony requirement unfortunately. How to install: using a memory or USB stick, or CD-R, etc… Copy “otheros.bld” (included in the RAR archive) & “otheros.self” (see below) to “/PS3/OTHEROS/”. Insert your removable media and from the XMB (Settings -> System Settings) run “Install Other OS.” Set the default boot to OtherOS, reboot, and you should be good to go. If you require further assistance, have a look at Sony’s official Open Platform web site. You can fetch the PS3 OtherOS Installer (otheros.self) here. Download: PS3 SAK v1.00
